문체부는 지역관광의 수용태세를 개선하고 관광기반을 정비해 지역관광 활성화를 꾀하기 위해 시도 순회, 지역을 선정해 지방방문의해 사업비 20억원을 지원해 왔다.
이번에 공모한 대상년도는 2012년과 2013년도 지방방문의해로 2012년을 전라북도로, 2013년을 부산∙울산∙경남(공동개최)으로 14일 최종 선정 발표했다.
이에 따라 전북도는 2012년을 전북도가 대한민국의 새로운 관광중심지로 자리를 굳히는 해로 만들기 위해 관광인프라 구축과 관광객 유치를 위해 2012 전북방문의해 실행계획 수립을 위한 연구 용역을 실시할 계획이다.
또한 내년도에는 추진기획단을 구성해 세부 실행전략을 토대로 홈페이지 구축, 상징체계 개발, 관광네트워크 구축해 홍보∙마케팅을 추진할 방침이다.
나아가 2010~2012 한국방문의 해 및 메가이벤트(2012 여수 세계박람회 등) 연계방안을 강구해 다각적으로 전북관광의 경쟁력 확충 방안을 마련하는 계기로 삼을 작정이다.
전북도 관계자는 “전북방문의 해 유치 배경은 새로운 관광명소로 떠오른 세계 최장 새만금 방조제를 기반으로 국내∙외 관광객을 적극 유치해 지역관광발전을 획기적으로 달성하려 한다”라며, “아울러 타 지역과 차별화된 전통문화∙관광∙영상산업을 지역성장 핵심 산업으로 육성해 관광자원을 체계적으로 발굴함으로써 국내∙외 관광투자 유치를 가속화하고 세계속의 전북관광으로 도약하기 위함”이라고 밝혔다.
