군장대학 축구부는 전북대 감독, 이리고 코치, 전북현대 코치를 역임한 조승연 감독이 야구부는 국가대표코치(세계선수권대회, 방콕아시아게임), 원광대 감독을 역임한 박병준 감독이 지휘봉을 잡았다.
두 운동부를 총괄하는 단장은 생활체육과 손승건 교수, 부단장은 백우석 교수, 부장은 최강옥 박사(전 한국여자축구연맹 전무이사)가 임명되었다.
축구부원은 이리고, 군산제일고, 서울 남강고, 천안 제일고 등의 고교에서 선발된 24명의 선수로 구성 되어 있고 작년 10월부터 준비하여 2010년도 대학 U리그에 3월 11일부터 참가해, 조선이공대학을 2:1로 완파하여 처음 경기를 승리로 장식함으로써 순조로운 출발을 알렸다.
야구부원는 광주일고, 군산상고, 전주고, 광주 동성고 등의 출신선수 19명이 작년 6월부터 훈련하여, 금년 5월부터 진행하는 전국체전 지역예선에 참가할 예정이다.
이승우 총장은 “군장대학 축구부·야구부는 대학의 홍보 및 지역스포츠 문화에 주도적인 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.
또한 “선수 개개인에 맞는 맞춤형 교육으로 경쟁력 강한 축구부·야구부로 발전시켜 나가겠다.”고 밝혔다.
