자전거 도로 안전망 구축 등 여건개선 촉구

군산시의회(의장 고석강)가 군산시 현안사업과 관련하여 직접 체험하는 체험현장방문에 나서 관심을 끌고 있다.

5일 군산시의회 행정복지위윈회(위원장 강성옥)는 군산시가 추진하고 있는 10대 자전거 거점도시사업 현장을 직접 자전거를 타고 체험현장방문을 실시했다.

이는 임시회 기간 상임위별 주요 업무보고 과정에서 드러난 자전거 도로의 문제점과 애로사항에 대해 직접 체험하고 집행부와 함께 해결점을 모색하고자 이루어진 것.

행복위 위원들은 이날 환경위생과 자전거정책계로부터 10대 자전거 거점도시 사업에 대한 업무보고를 청취하고, 자전거이용 인프라 구축과 제도 및 안전기반 강화, 관광∙레저와 연계한 홍보부족 등을 지적, 나운동 리폼센터에서 군산시청까지 시내 번화가를 중심으로 자전거 노선에 대한 현장을 둘러봤다.

이들 위원들은 자전거 도로상에 안내 표지판과 고압전기 박스의 설치로 자전거 이용자에게 상당한 위험요인으로 작용하고 있다고 지적하고, 시가 나서서 자전거도로에 대한 총체적 검검으로 자전거 이용자가 불편함이 없도록 최선을 다해 줄 것을 당부했다.

또 시가 명품 녹색 자전거 도시가 되기 위해서는 시민들이 안전하고 편안한 환경을 만들어 주는 것이 절대적으로 필요한 만큼 기존 자전거 도로 정비는 물론 자전거∙보행자 간 보호구역 운영과 안전 표지판 설치로 대책을 마련해 줄 것을 촉구했다.

이에 시는 현재 자전거 전용도로가 4개 노선 11㎞와 자전거와 보행자 겸용도로가 43개 노선 88㎞가 있으나 의원들의 지적사항을 검토해 앞으로 자전거도로 신설과 자전거 이용자가 불편함이 없도록 환경개선에 노력하겠다고 밝혔다.

강성옥 행정복지위원장은 “군산시가 10대 자전거 거점도시로 선정되었지만, 자전거 이용자를 찾아보기 힘들다”며 “저탄소 녹색성장이라는 국가정책과 시민건강과 편익을 위해 자전거도로 편의시설과 안전망 구축등 여건개선으로 자전거 타기 붐 조성에 박차를 가하겠다”고 밝혔다.
